It doesn’t matter if it is a one-time or two-way problem, oven repairs can be very frustrating. They can happen, and sometimes they are unavoidable. You’ll be able to identify and diagnose the most common problems in your oven. Here they are, sans further delay:
Most Common Oven Repair Problems
Oven, not heating/Oven bakes unevenly
These are some of the most common complaints in relation to oven repair. Often, the cause(s), are caused by the same part(s). Failing oven igniters are often the reason your oven isn’t heating up or baking evenly. The igniter’s job is twofold. It draws electrical current through the safety switch to open it. Once the safety valve is opened, the ignition gas glows and ignites. The safety valve can’t be opened correctly if the igniter is too weak. This causes the gas to get hotter, or even no heat. Failure of the bake element could also be a possibility. It’s likely to need repair if the element is not glowing red or has visible damage. The oven will not bake evenly as the broiler heats it.
Broiler for oven not working
Oven broilers use high heat to fast cook food, which is ideal for meats and also gives the food a golden crust. If your oven fails to cook the food properly after it is turned on, there may be a few reasons. An igniter could be the culprit, but spark electrodes or broil elements are also possible. When working properly, the broiler element should glow red hot. The broiler spark electron is found right next to the broil burner and functions as a sparkplug. It will stop the broiler from lighting up if it becomes worn out or broken.
The oven is not self-cleaning
If your oven does not self-clean, the most common faults are:
- Door Switch: Lock the door to prevent oven self-cleaning. The cycle will not start if it isn’t locked.
- Temperature Control Thermostat: It is possible for the thermostat not to work for the self-cleaning cycle, but for baking and broiling. It is difficult to test this part on your own. You will most likely need to have a repair technician help you determine whether it is necessary to replace it.
- Thermal Fuse: The thermal fuse is installed to stop your oven from heating too much. The fuse must be replaced if it is tripped (switching off the oven’s heating power). A thermal fuse cannot be reset once it is tripped.
